Hi, I'm Shanda — the maker behind Blaq Rose Designs.
I've always been a creative at heart. Before candles, that meant chasing down whatever medium let me build something with my hands and my imagination. Candle making found me the same way everything else has: as another canvas. To me, it's not just melting wax and adding fragrance — it's an art form. Every pour is a chance to play with color, texture, and scent until it becomes something that feels like more than just a candle.
Our Story
It all started with a simple frustration: walking through store after store, sniffing candle after candle, and smelling the same handful of scents over and over again. Vanilla. Strawberry. Lavender. "Clean linen." The same tired lineup, repackaged a hundred different ways.
So I started making my own.
I wanted more. So instead of settling for the familiar, I started taking those same scents people know — and are honestly a little tired of — and giving them a twist: deepening them, layering them, reworking them into something that feels different and unexpected, while still hitting that note of familiarity you were drawn to in the first place.
Every candle from Blaq Rose Designs is hand-poured in small batches using soy wax, because I care as much about how a candle burns as how it smells. That artistic streak is also what's pushed me past traditional jar candles into more playful, sculptural pieces — like parfait candles and cupcake candles — where the fun is in making something you almost don't want to burn.
Based in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, Blaq Rose Designs is a small business built one candle, one scent, one detail at a time. My goal is simple: no more scent exhaustion. Just candles worth lighting — and looking at.
